Hello and blessed be to you all on this the longest, albeit wettest day of the year. This solstice is the equal to Samhain, in the fact that Samhain is the shortest, and both are times when the ether becomes thinner, and whereas Samhain is a time when those who have gone on before us may come back to see us, Midsummers is all about the fey, Fairy Folk or the wee people.
Tonight before the sun sets, take a wander in your garden, and leave an offering of milk, honey, butter or cakes for them, some brightly coloured stones, ribbons or money as the fey are quite partial to those. Wish them well and then leave. If you don't have a garden, but live close to trees, a mound, river, or a forest, leave your offering at the edge, and don't overstep your boundaries, tis never a good idea. You wouldn't like it if someone placed their massive size 9's in your home without an invite now would you?
This marks the end of the summer (tho here in Ireland we've not really had one yet), and the progression towards harvesting the crops in preparation for the winter. So, dig out the gold and fire like cancles, make up your sun wheel (circle with crossed sticks in middle), light your bonfire and celebrate with pastas, fruits, beans and all sorts of lovely fare. Have a laugh and maybe even watch 'midsummers night eve by shakesphere, or read it...
Me and T will be cleaning, setting table and altar and maybe even taking Sophie for a longer walk (providing we've a dry spell when she gets in from work).
Well to you all a blessed Solstice, and a happy midsummer.
G
